Our vets at South Novato Animal Hospital offer surgeries to help treat a variety of cat and dog conditions and diseases or to help trauma-based injuries.

  We offer soft tissue surgical procedures for cats and dogs experiencing throat, nose and ear disorders.

• Spaying & Neutering

  When spaying or neutering your pets we always sterilize the dogs and cats in order to prevent diseases and to extend their life expectancy.  

• C-Sections

  C-sections are usually performed when the mother isn't able to naturally give birth. 

  Throughout Caesarean sections ( C-sections) our team surgically removes kittens and puppies from their mother's uterus to help her give birth.

• Ocular

  Your cat or dog  might require ocular surgery if they are displaying signs of redness, pain or any other symptoms around or in their eyes.

  The types of ocular procedures  we most often see for pets include cherry eye surgery, entropion surgery, eyelid tumor removal, cataract surgery, ectropion surgery and exenteration of the orbit.

• Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA)

  Our talented team of vets perform this surgical operation to treat CCL (cranial cruciate ligament) ruptures in your dog's knee. The process involves cutting the top of their shin bone and moving it forward, we then stabilize it in the corrected location.

• Orthopedic Surgery

Veterinary Surgery Process

Our team understands that it can be frightening to bring your beloved pet in for surgery. And we want to assure you that we only suggest surgery when it is in your cat or dog's best interest. 

We will make sure that you completely understand and know why we are recommending surgery and we want you to be comfortable making the final decision to move forward with the procedure. 

If your pet needs more advanced care, our veterinarians will refer you to a vet surgeon around the Novato area, and will work closely with your veterinary surgeon to make sure that your pet receives the highest-quality of care possible. 

Surgical protocols at our clinic include:

Pre-surgical assessments. We will confirm the specifics of the procedure, perform a comprehensive physical examination of your pet, and make sure blood tests have been completed and reviewed by your veterinarian. This will let your vet know if your pet is at risk of encountering any complications relating to the anesthesia.

Dedicated surgical suites. We perform surgeries in a dedicated surgical suite. This is a completely sterile room so our team can prevent cross-contamination and infection.

Surgical attire. The surgical staff wears disposable masks and caps the entire time they are in the surgical suite. Anyone involved with the procedure itself will also wear sterile single-use gloves and gowns.

Sterile packs and equipment. Everything is carefully cleaned and sterilized. We wrap our surgical equipment and instruments before every surgery.
